Not necessarily, although lighter colours show wear less visibly and require less frequent maintenance. All Staron® Solid Surface colours will provide many years of dependable service.

Note: consult with a sales associate or fabricator to choose a Staron® or Tempest colour that is best suited for your particular project. Like most materials, dark colours, and particularly dark colours that have been finished to a high gloss will potentially show scratches or abrasion marks. Therefore, it’s best to keep in mind that a surface in a dark colour and a high gloss finish generally requires additional care and maintenance. However, if scratches occur over time, the surface can easily be sanded down and refinished. Refinishing must be performed by a certified Fabricator/Installer and, typically, you will be charged the standard hourly service rate.

Just wipe clean using mild dish-soap and water. Follow with an ammonia-based product, such as glass cleaner, for a streak-free shine.
Visit the Care and Maintenance section for additional information.

Yes, Staron® Solid Surfaces are inherently nonporous, with smooth, impenetrable seams. Unlike other surfaces such as laminate, tile and granite, Staron® Solid Surfaces have no grout lines or ridges to trap dirt and germs. This exceptionally smooth surface makes Staron® surfaces easy to clean. Staron® Solid Surfaces can be fabricated as one continuous surface to further reduce areas where bacteria can grow.

Scratches and cuts can be buffed away with a light duty scrubbing pad and a mild abrasive cleanser. Visit the Care and Maintenance section for additional information.

No, Staron® Solid Surfaces are homogenous, meaning the colour and material are consistent throughout. That's why repairing scratches is so easy and why the surface, with proper care, will look like new.

With proper care and maintenance, your Staron® Solid Surface countertops will last for many years. Staron® Solid Surfaces are considered to be a renewable material and can be refinished to look like new not to mention the fact that they are backed by a 10-year limited warranty.

Staron® Solid Surfaces can be finished in your choice of matte, semi-gloss and high-gloss finishes. Consult with a sales associate or fabricator to choose a finish option that is best suited for your particular project.

Cutting directly on any countertop surface is not recommended. We recommend always use a cutting board. Fortunately, Staron® Surfaces can be easily repaired if a surface nick or scratch should occur.

Yes. Because Staron® Solid Surfaces are nonporous, germs and bacteria have nowhere to accumulate. In fact, Staron® Solid Surfaces are one of just a few surfaces approved for food preparation areas in restaurants.

Before preparing a meal, always make sure the surface is clean. Do not allow other food to come into contact with a surface where raw meats have been placed until the surface is thoroughly sanitized, preferably with a weak bleach solution. After sanitizing, immediately rinse and clean the surface with water - leaving food residue on the surface to air dry can result in a stubborn stain.

No. The acrylic resins used in Staron® Solid Surfaces are unaffected by the ultraviolet rays present in natural light, so its colour will not fade. However, Staron® Solid Surfaces are not intended for outdoor use because of the potential for extreme weather conditions, pollutants and other contaminants.

Staron® Solid Surfaces are heat-resistant and will remain stable and undamaged up to 212º F. However, high heat or flame can damage the surface. Nonetheless, in most cases, damage can be repaired. To protect the countertop surface, always use a heat pad or trivet.

Solid surfaces are not intended to be used as a flooring material, though it has been used as stair treads. Even then, only colours with large particulate patterns are used to mask signs of wear.

We thought you'd never ask. If granite is not sealed regularly, it can become stained and harbour bacteria, viruses and mould. Seams in granite are also difficult to keep clean. Staron® Solid Surfaces are nonporous with smooth, impenetrable seams to prevent unwelcome germs and mildew. Staron® Solid Surfaces are also more impact-resistant than granite; plus, curved and circular designs are easier and less expensive to fabricate using Staron®.

Laminates may separate over time if exposed to moisture. Staron® Solid Surfaces are solid and homogenous, impenetrable to moisture. Laminates may also be damaged easily by nicks and stains, and cannot be repaired like Staron®.

Tile has many seams where bacteria, viruses and mould can accumulate. Grout between tiles must be cleaned frequently and often cracks. Staron® Solid Surfaces have smooth, impenetrable seams, and are more impact-resistant than tile.

Visit the Care and Maintenance section for additional information. The basic rule of thumb is to only use a mild abrasive (such as Soft Scrub®) with a blue or green Scotch-Brite® pad if your Staron® surface is installed in a matte finish. If the surface was installed in a high-gloss finish, stick with an ammonia based glass cleaner or products like 409® - DO NOT use a Scotch-Brite® pad of any type on a high-gloss finish.

It is possible, but depends on the style of sink and the details of the existing installation. Check with your local fabricator.

Yes. Though there are some common fixture sizes, we highly recommend selecting the sink and faucet before your custom countertop is created by a fabricator.

Staron® Solid Surfaces are installed by licensed fabricators who have been specifically trained. Using a licensed fabricator ensures that your countertop or commercial-use surface will be properly installed and under full warranty.

To ensure quality installation and full warranty, Staron® Solid Surfaces are only available to licensed fabricators.

As a separate piece, Staron® Solid Surfaces makes a great cutting board. Ask your fabricator to leave a colour-matched piece of the Staron® material left over from the installation. This piece can also be fashioned, by the fabricator, in to a cutting board to protect your countertop from scratches or cuts (be sure rubber or silicon "feet" are added to the bottom of the Staron® cutting board). Also, these spare pieces will come-in handy in the event a repair to the countertop is necessary in the future.
